AGFC To Employ 150 More In Evansville

UPDATE, TUE, 8:30 AM: American General Financial Services in Evansville will spend $35 million to build a new, larger office building.

AGFC has 1,400 employees in Evansville and plans to add 150 more full-time workers after the expansion is complete.

The company offers consumer and home equity loans, retail sales financing and other financial products to more than two million customers.

The subsidiary of American International Group has been operating since 1920. It now has 15-hundred branches in 45 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

The 18-month construction project is expected to begin early 2007.

Residents Decry I-69's Potential Impact On City

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. -- City leaders want a visit from Gov. Mitch Daniels so that they can tell him about their objections to the state's plans to build the Interstate 69 extension through their community.

The City Council voted 7-0 to ask for the time with Daniels a week after the state highway department did not send anyone to a meeting about using the Indiana 37 corridor for the I-69 route.

The city's request comes as residents of a rural area south of Bloomington voted 119-1 during a community association meeting to object to Daniels' suggestion that much of the new highway between Evansville and Indianapolis be built as a toll road. .
