YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 19, 2006--United Community Financial Corp. (Company) (Nasdaq:UCFC), holding company of The Home Savings and Loan Company (Home Savings) and Butler Wick Corp. (Butler Wick), today reported net income of $6.3 million, or $0.21 per diluted share, for the three months ended June 30, 2006, compared to $6.5 million, or $0.22 per diluted share, for the three months ended June 30, 2005. Annualized return on average equity for the three months ended June 30, 2006 was 9.13% compared to 10.09% for the same period in 2005.
Net income for the six months ended June 30, 2006, was $12.4 million, or $0.42 per diluted share, compared to $11.4 million, or $0.39 per diluted share, for the six months ended June 30, 2005. Annualized return on average equity for the first six months of 2006 was 9.09% compared to 8.86% for the first six months of 2005.

AKRON, Ohio, July 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- FirstMerit Corporation (Nasdaq: FMER - News) today announced second quarter 2006 net income of $27.7 million, or $0.35 per diluted share. This compares with $36.1 million, or $0.43 per diluted share, for the second quarter 2005. Returns on average common equity ("ROE") and average assets ("ROA") for second quarter were 12.75% and 1.10%, respectively, compared with 15.07% and 1.40% for the second quarter 2005.
