Lawsuit May Keep Voters From Electing New Judges In Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Some people who want to be Florida's newest judges are waiting to find out if they'll even have a chance to run for office after a nominating commission said Gov. Jeb Bush, and not the voters, should decide who will get the jobs.

State lawmakers created spots for 55 new judges around the state of Florida, including four in Duval County. They wanted voters to decide who would fill the positions.

Investigation Of Crash That Killed 7 Children Complete

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol and the Union County Sheriff's Office have completed the investigation into the January crash involving a tractor-trailer, a car and a school bus that killed seven children.

The reports have been forwarded to the state attorney's office, which will make a determination as to whether and what charges might be filed against Alvin Wilkerson, the driver of the semi.

The big rig driven by Wilkerson failed to stop for the car and the school bus, which was dropping off children on state Road 212, four miles south of Lake Butler.

The impact of the tractor-trailer pushed the car into a back of the bus and the car burst into flames, killing all seven children in the car and injuring several of the passengers in the bus.
